New Surf Centre in Wales

NATIONAL TRUST GUPTON FARM AND OUTER REEF SURF CENTRE TEAM UP FOR WATERSPORTS ACTIVITY BASE AT FRESHWATER WEST.

Surf’s up at National Trust Gupton Farm as the conservation charity announces an exciting activity base partnership with Pembroke’s Outer Reef Surf Centre. 

The activity base, which is located within walking distance of Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire, will offer watersports activities such as surfing, stand up paddle boarding, ISA Instrutor courses & SLSGB lifeguarding training.

Work is now underway at Gupton Farm, which also includes a campsite and farmhouse accommodation, to transform the former milking parlour into the activity area, with the base due to open this summer.

The new addition to the farmstead will focus on engaging visitors and the local community with the great outdoors and the area’s stunning stretch of coastline.

Speaking about the partnership, National Trust Gupton Farm campsite manager Bethan Jones, said: “We’re really excited to be working with Outer Reef Surf Centre at National Trust Gupton Farm and championing outdoor visitor experiences at this special place.

“Visitors can stay in an amazing location, have a go at watersports at one of Wales’ best beaches, as well as being able to follow our walking trails and enjoy wildlife watching at the on-site bird hide.”

Outer Reef Surf Centre’s Dean Gough, added: “We’re thrilled to be teaming up with the National Trust at Gupton Farm and love having Freshwater West as our office.

“The activity base will provide a great space for us to run watersports sessions, engage with visitors to the area and support our local community.”

The project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government, and Cotswold Outdoor.

Pembrokeshire Surf-Paddle boarding Club

Pembrokeshire Surf and Paddle boarding Club is a fun filled, safetley informed program designed for 5-15 year olds.

Its a fun and safe way to learn to surf and paddle board (Sup). Our programs run after school every night for Juniors and secondary schools and on Sunday every weekend throughout the holdiays. Our club participants get an awesome package it includes the use of surf and paddle boards, wetsuit, rash vest, plus a FREE club hoodie or a T-shirt. 15% off in selected surf Shop in Pembrokeshire.. everyone is covered under our third party insurance.

The Board Riders Surf - Paddle boarding Club

(Grom Club ) is part of a foundation of Pembrokeshire Sport Development and Outer Reef to create a pathway for junior paddle boarding and surfing in Wales. It is widely regarding as one of the best junior sports program in the country along side the likes of Football and other Foundation programs. We have been running it for over 10 years with over 3000 Junior participants!

The idea of club is to get local children involved in the sport of surfing- paddle boarding & are supported in a safe, non-competitive and inclusive program.  With beach games that are aimed at improving co-ordination and social skills, theory components that introduce the kids to oceanography, weather conditions and wave types and practical skill sets to learn, the kids are nurtured with a holistic approach to surfing in mind. The program has 5 levels starting at 1 for the absolute beginners and focuses on water safety and the basics of catching a wave and standing up, right through to Level 5 where the SurfGroms are paddling in and taking off on 4-6 foot waves and doing manoeuvres.

The two days are split into 4 sessions The mornings will start at the beach at 10am and finish at around 12.15pm, then we break for lunch (you will need a packed lunch) and start again at 2pm-4pm.

Ladies surf weekend retreat

Hi Ladies, come & join us this July & August 2018 , we are running two adventure workshop weekends in Pembrokeshire & West Wales for females only. The retreat is aimed at both the complete novice and female surfers who want some education and advice on all aspects of the sport such as performance analysis and the development of specific manoeuvres (whilst most importantly having fun!). We would like to thank all the girls who took part in last years workshops and hope you all had as much fun taking part as we did running them. It was great to see so much mutual support and encouragement in this fast growing section of the sport.

July 21st-22nd

August 25th- 26th 

The women’s weekends are designed for all abilities including those who have never surfed before so you will be fine. The two days are split into 4 sessions The mornings will start at the beach at 10am and finish at around 12.15pm, then we break for lunch (you will need a packed lunch) and start again at 2pm-4pm.

The cost of the weekend is £175 per person which includes the following;

3 surfing sessions
1 Stand up paddle boarding adventure,
2 night’s accommodation (Fri & Sat) at the beautiful Location of Freshwater West at Gupton Farm.
A free hoodie & a goodie bag & all the equipment needed for the weekend will be provided by us.

The course is designed to introduce more females to surfing & Sup (Stand Up Paddle Boarding) and develop those who are more advanced, however it is also based around meet people & having a lot of fun and also having an informal weekend, so I hope you can join us.
